Self-Discipline

I love starting a new quilt... the planning, the acquisition of fabrics and materials, cutting into fabric, watching the blocks come together and patterns take shape...  so much so that I've started quite a few quilts this year that I hadn't planned on making.  However, from the get-go of my quilting adventures, I determined that I would finish every quilt I started and not have a pile of UFOs.  I'm doing pretty good so far.

I have some beautiful new fabric...

...and I want to start the Cowabunga Floribunda quilt.  But looking around, I see only one of the four placemats quilted and none finished.

I can't clear the sewing machine table until I get the placemats finished...

I also need to clear the cutting table to cut into the new fabrics...  but today, the next Civil War block has been posted and I will need some of the fabrics piled on the table for the new block...

Additionally, I have not completed the Smokey Mtn Stars quilt top... it's still hanging on the design wall...  columns need sewing together and 2 borders added...

I found three definitions for self-discipline...

Self-discipline is:
  • the ability to reject instant gratification in favor of something better,
  • giving up of instant pleasure and satisfaction for a higher goal, and
  • the ability of the individual to stick to actions, thoughts, and behavior, which lead to improvement and success.
True... going back to work this past week seriously interfered with progress on these projects.  However, I need to finish up these projects before starting another...  and what better motivator to get these projects done than starting a new quilt?

See, Chris?  I can stick to my goal...
